Poker for Chess Players

Several years ago a new trend was seen among professional chess players. They started to play online poker. The reason was that they realized that this was a way to support their limited income from chess only. For professional chess players below lets say the top 100 in the world it was (and is) very hard to make a decent living from chess. There is just not enough money to be distributed.in chess. When in a normal Open chess tournament 10 - 15 grandmasters among 200 - 300 other players challenge for a 1st prize of maybe USD 2.000 to 3.000, there are every day online poker tournaments where the 1st prize is at least USD 10.000 and on bigger tournaments USD 100.000 and higher.
